The Spanish football giant FC Barcelona have been struggling with injuries. At the moment Barca misses centre back Samuel Umtiti and left back Jordi Alba from the opening defending line and young Ansu Fati from the attack. Still the worst absence is Lionel Messi’s new injury.
The Argentinian star was replaced at half-time on Tuesday’s 2-1-win against Villarreal. The head coach of Barcelona, Ernesto Valverde told after the match that substitution was just a precaution but the club informed more about Messi’s injury
- First team player Leo Messi has an elongation at the adductor of the left thigh. It is low and its progression will determine his availability, the club statement said.
Länsi-Suomi inquired of Messi’s situation on Friday when doctor Ricard Pruna, FC Barcelona Head of Medical was visiting in the congress of medical center Urheilu Mehiläinen in Helsinki.
- I can’t answer this kind of question. It’s very complicated for me because if I talk about that it has a lot of repercussion to all. And I prefer to be humble, Pruna stated.
Pruna and team doctors Xavier Valle and Jordi Puigdellivo were in Helsinki delivering greetings from the club and to honor surgeon Sakari Orava’s career. Also the medical director of AC Milan, Stefano Mazzoni had travelled to Helsinki.
Orava, 74, has operated thousands of athletes among such footballers as Pep Guardiola, Didier Deschamps, David Beckham, Ousman Dembele and Messi.
Orava have co-operated clubs like Barcelona and AC Milan since 1990’s.
- I told my wife that I’m going to retire at the end of the year. She asked which year. Maybe I can do some consulting work if it’s still to suffice, Orava entertained the audience.
